The RDF Source related Storage-System (RDF-S3) stores RDF statements into SQL databases. Each RDF statement keeps its relationship where it came from, more specific the system stores the URL of the RDF file used to enter a statement into the system. The main motivation for it is the fact that also in real life we do not trust everything unless we know that the source is trustable. But there can be also other systems benefit from the source relational knowledge. Suppose you find a contradiction, you have the possibility to figure out the sources that are responsible for it, which makes it more easy to solve it. A positive side affect is that RDF-S3 allows the deletion and update of single sources out of the system.
RDF-S3 is storing the statements by using standard SQL statements. The aim of RDF-S3 is to be independent of object-relational extensions like table hierarchies and therefore be able to run on any DBMS that supports the SQL standard. RDF-S3 has been tested with the DB2 Universal Database version 8.1 from IBM.
Since version 1.5 RDF-S3 comes with an implementation for the easy RDF Query Language (eRQL). A more detailed description on eRQL and on RDF-S3 can be found in the How to use HTML page.
To run RDF-S3 you need at least JRE 1.4.0 or higher and an SQL database. The system was tested on the DB2 Universal Database from IBM. A 30 days trail version can be downloaded at the IBM web pages.
RDF-S3 is Open Source/ Free Software, and GPL compatible. See the RDF-S3 license for details. Note that as this license is GPL compatible, it is possible to redistribute software based on RDF-S3 sources under a GPL license.
Current actual version is RDF-S3 1.8.2 published on 16th Mai 2006.

Since Version 1.5 of RDF-S3 it includes an extended implementation of easy RQL (eRQL) based directly on RDF-S3's storage structure. The eRqlEngine of Fabian Weklinski was used as the basis for it. |
