Big Data Analytics Day 2013

Organizer: Big Data Analytics Research Lab at the Institute of Computer Science, Goethe University of Franklfurt.

Big Data

Every day, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created. This data comes from digital pictures, videos, posts to social media sites, intelligent sensors, purchase transaction records, cell phone GPS signals to name a few. This is Big Data.

There is no doubt that Big Data and especially what we do with it has the potential to become a driving force for innovation and value creation.

The day will be structured in two parts:
- Morning session: From 9:00 till 12:30 Invited talks for leading data scientists, and a closing panel dicussion.
- Afternoon session: From 13:30 till 17:00 Hands-on session on using an Hadoop-based distribution and related open sources tools for Big Data Analytics.

Awarded Paper

Clemens Schefels´ paper "How to Find Important Users in a Web Community? Mining Similarity Graphs", presented at the First International Conference on Data Analytics (September 23-28, 2012 - Barcelona, Spain), has been selected among the "Best Papers" based on the reviews of the original submission, the camera-ready version, and the presentation during the conference.

Dr. Nikos Korfiatis nominated Outstanding Reviewer 2012 from Emerald.

Nikos Korfiatis has been chosen as an Outstanding Reviewer at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2012. 

The most Outstanding Reviewers are chosen following consultation amongst the journal’s Editors, whom are eminent academics or managers. 

Dr. Korfiatis have been selected for the very impressive and significant contribution made as a Reviewer throughout 2011.
